Volunteers hand over donations to the “Sveti Sava” school in Jasenovik

After far too long, our volunteers were finally back on site in Kosovo and Metohija at the end of February. Thanks to our intrepid helpers and donors, who continue to support our modest work despite the turmoil in this world and recent events, as well as the ongoing political instability, we were able to support institutions of the Serbian minority on our last trip.

Among other things, we visited the “Sveti Sava” school in Jasenovik – one of our aid projects that we have been supporting for some time. This year, we were able to provide the teaching staff and the 13 remaining students, who are spread across eight classes, with a new blackboard, chalk, drawing equipment, and notebooks, among other things. Following our visit, during which we arranged to meet the children for a soccer game on our next trip, Principal Verica Ristic remarked:

“We immediately liked these people. We immediately had the impression that they understood us. And we understand them completely then, as we do now. Above all, we know that they are wonderful people. From their very first visit and many times since, they brought help to our students and our school, which has meant a great deal to us. Our school is a small, very poor rural school and receives no funding from anyone to run it. They have given us many things: hygiene products, office supplies, student supplies, money to buy things we need, a lawnmower, a blackboard… We are most pleased when they come with their families and friends, as they did recently. We always had a wonderful time with them and their families. I must say, their help means a lot to us, because it is always exactly what we need most. They always ask us what we need and try to help. I would like to thank everyone who has supported these people in the Help realize their plans.”

In addition to visiting the “Sveti Sava” school in Jasenovik, our local helpers also handed over donations to the “Naša radost” kindergarten section in Velika Hoča after our departure.

We certainly can’t save the whole world, but we can help make it a little better.
